Probate

Maryland law generally requires that a decedent estate be Probated if the decedent dies owning property which is titled in the decedent's own name, or if the estate is in a position to receive property at the decedent's death.  These assets are called Probate assets.  Some assets are exempt from Probate, but those assets may still be subject to Maryland inheritance tax.

During the estate planning process I can help you to decide whether to title certain assets so that they pass to others outside of the probate process, and to appropriately title those assets.

After death I can help the Personal Representative to complete the steps involved in the Probate process.
